Don’t forget to watch the final Paul.

Latics are looking to quickly follow up the signing of Emile Heskey and Paul Jewell is suggesting that two new faces could be at the club by Monday.  He and is team will be working over the weekend to finalise the deals for what the official website describes as “two more major signings”.  Jewell seems reasonably confident that his transfer business will amount to 5 players in as many days before the dust has settled on the World Cup final.  As usual the club are keeping things fairly close to their chests and there is no indication as to who these players may be, there are however plenty of suspects.

Long term interest in both Chris Kirkland and Denny Lendzaat has been raised again this week, Jewell is said to be now prepared to do a permanent deal for the keeper and Sky are reporting that Latics have outbid Espanyol for the services of the Dutch midfielder.  John Elamander seems certain to be leaving Sweden soon and he’s known to have been Jewell’s sights.

Elsewhere fresh bids for Davies, Gera and Ellington have been turned down whilst an initial bid of £1 million has not enticed Crystal Palace to part with right-back Emmerson Boyce.  There’s been no recent word on Croatian World Cup star Nico Kranjcar but he remains a possible, more so than Robbie Savage, interest in whom died down almost as quick as it started.

All in all it looks as if there’s some busy times ahead and if only half of those players join the club we’ll be starting with a bigger squad than last season, let’s hope that the signings are right and it’s a better one as well.
